Rhetorical Awareness Response
This assignment asks you to practice rhetorical awareness by analyzing how an author makes an argument. Rather than summarizing the reading or stating whether you agree, you will focus on identifying the author’s claim and examining one rhetorical strategy used to persuade an audience.
This assignment builds directly on the in-class rhetorical analysis we practiced together.
Objective:
Using one of the other assigned weekly readings, you will write a short rhetorical awareness response that analyzes how the author makes their argument.
Requirements:
Your response should be minimum 300 words and address the following:
Author’s Main Claim
Identify the author’s central claim or argument in your own words.
Audience Awareness
Describe who the intended audience appears to be and how the author signals this through tone, language, or examples.
Rhetorical Strategy
Identify one rhetorical strategy the author uses (for example: personal anecdote, use of evidence, tone, word choice, comparison, or emotional appeal).
Explain how this strategy works to support the author’s argument.
You may quote briefly from the text if helpful, but extensive quotation is not required.
