Assignment Overview

Self-reflection allows for personal and professional growth. According to the CSWE, learners should identify with the social work profession. The purpose of this assignment is for you to reflect on and appraise your BSW Practicum 1 experience.

Assignment Description

In this assignment, you will begin to review your initial work as a generalist in social work practice and uncover the opportunities for growth and development through your practice education experience.

Assignment Instructions

Use the guidelines below to create a PowerPoint presentation outlining your experience in the practicum. Your PowerPoint presentation should be no more than 10 PowerPoint slides.

• Background Information and Introduction.

  • Your name.

  • Name of practicum site.

  • Mission of the practicum site.

  • Practice instructor's name.

• Review and Appraise Your Experience.

  • Think about your major responsibilities in the practicum.

    • What did you do well during the practicum? Share your proudest accomplishment.

    • Discuss the most important lessons learned during BSW Practicum 1.

    • How did you integrate the ethical and effective use of technology during your BSW Practicum 1?

    • How did you demonstrate cultural diversity and embrace differences?

    • How did you apply theory in practice? For example, what theories did you utilize during the assessment and intervention phases? Analyze the strengths and limitations of a theory you applied.

• Opportunities for Growth and Development.

  • Discuss the support you received from the agency or organization, practice instructor, and other staff.

  • How did the support you received help you in your practicum experience?

  • How has the BSW Practicum 1 shaped you as a future social work professional?

  • What actions did you take to ensure a positive learning experience at the practicum?

• Self-Reflection and Evaluation.

  • How have you implemented the Bachelor of Social Work Program Mission Statement into practice education ​practice?

Additional Requirements

The assignment you submit is expected to meet the following requirements:

• Written communication: Written communication is free from errors that detract from the overall message.

• APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style and formatting standards. The Evidence and APA section of the Writing Center can help with that.

• Cited resources: A minimum of five scholarly sources. All literature cited should be current, with most publication dates within the past five years.

• Length of PowerPoint presentation: Maximum of 10 PowerPoint slides, not counting title and reference slides.

• Notes: Use the "Notes" section to write what you would say if you were giving this presentation in person.
