Philosophical Analysis PowerPoint Presentation (PAPP)

Here are the assignment details:

Prepare an analytical PowerPoint presentation (15 - 20 slides) of a colleague's or an institution's philosophy of education, using the ideas presented in Spring's (2008) Wheels in the Head as the framework for your analysis (different book NOT  AMERICAN EDUCATION 20th Edition)

This is not a presentation explaining your philosophy of education or that of a philosopher in the text. Instead, this is a presentation explaining a professional colleague's (preferably a preK-12 grade teacher) or an institution's (preferably from the preK-12 school arena) apparent philosophy of education.

First, examine two main sources from which one may make inferences regarding an individual’s or an institution's philosophy of education: documents and practices. Documents (e.g., mission statements, learning standards, behavioral objectives, group norms, classroom rules, syllabi, contracts, grading policy, etc.) are all born from some level of thought and contemplation. Similarly, practices (e.g., classroom or school-wide procedures, discipline, reward, praise, criticism, verbal/communication patterns, organization of time/scheduling, etc.) are born from some level of thought and contemplation.

Second, use the ideas presented in Spring as a framework through which to examine the above. That is, what philosophical ideas, assumptions, and convictions do the identified documents and practices signify? Which notions of educational philosophy do the documents and practices indicate?

Unless your subject has an "airtight" philosophy of education that perfectly matches his/her/its actions, your analysis should articulate and discuss the philosophical intersections and divergences: a) within the separate realms of documents and practices and b) between these realms. Particularly be attentive to presenting inconsistencies or contradictions.

You are required to use speaker notes in your slides to add additional detail and context explaining the selected content of your slides as necessary.

No more than 30% of your slides should consist of the documentation you will be working from. The majority of your presentation should consist of your own rich and robust analysis.
