Assignment 2: Term Paper Part II: Conference Proposal for Week 4 Paper
Paper details: You will now continue the work you began in Week 1. Be sure to first implement any feedback from your instructor. Remember, your Week 4 paper in this course will focus on a topic within one of three broad areas of social research:
Inequalities in Education
Inequalities at Work
Health Inequalities
In Week 4, you will be writing the final paper as if it is a well-sourced speech that you are giving to an academic conference hosted by University. This week, you will propose the conference! Here are the specific requirements for this paper:
Create the document as an approximately two-page flyer for the conference.
The flyer should have the conference’s title at the top of the paper. Example titles could be:
“Re-Imagining Gender in the Workplace”
“The Fight for Racial Equality in Higher Education”
“Providing Better Healthcare to Working Class Americans”
Write approximately 300 words describing why the topic/theme implied in the title is particularly relevant in contemporary America. Cite at two terms/concepts from your course readings that correspond to the title and theme you selected for the conference to persuade the reader to attend.
Place your name in the flyer and list yourself as the keynote speaker! Under your name, give the title for your speech, which should correspond to the conference title and theme you selected. For example, if your conference title were to be “Re-Imaging Gender in the Workplace”, your specific presentation will be a narrower topic within that, such as “Examining the Relationship Between Family Obligations and Women’s Opportunities for Tenure and Promotion.”
Under the title for your talk, give a description of your speech of approximately 450 words. In the description, include key data on the issue that justifies your selection of the topic. You should use our textbook or peer-reviewed research on the subject and include at least two citations. You should also include a reflection on how your topic has been discussed in politics and the public sphere in recent times to further highlight its relevance.
Length: Approximately 1-2 page flyer, not including the reference page
References: Support your assignment with at least 2 scholarly resources. The Sociology Library Guide may help in locating resources.
The completed assignment should address all the assignment requirements, exhibit evidence of concept knowledge, and demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the content presented in the course. Your response should conform to the scholarly writing standards established in the style guide of your choice (ie. APA, ASA, MLA, etc.).
When applicable, conduct a Turnitin pre-check and then upload your completed assignment and seleerwct the Submit to Dropbox button.
